Dresses and Skirts: New Work by Teresa Albor

DRESSES AND SKIRTS is a response to revisiting some of the seminal feminist texts Albor read at the University of Wisconsin in the 1970s, in particular, the work of Shulamith Firestone. She uses cloth with history or meaning such as dishtowels, dresses, bed sheets.  “I see certain processes, certain textiles and garments as signifiers of the role of women,” says Albor.  “I hope viewers, especially women, will put aside for a moment their frantic displacement activities and ask themselves questions they’ve made themselves too busy to think about.” Albor has recently moved to Chicago from London.
