Listen to the Podcast: Chucky Pryzybl: “Tape: A Celebration”
After a summer hiatus, the CAD Report is back to preview the first show in the new CAD gallery space at 1932 S. Halsted. Chuck Pryzbyl talks about “Tape: A Celebration”. We discuss tape as technology and an art medium, Public Enemy vs. Beastie Boys, and how it is that tape disappeared without any fanfare.

Tape: A Celebration

“Tape: A Celebration” is group show featuring artists from multiple disciplines who have been invited to explore, tweak, dissect and revel in the medium of analog audio and video tape.

Currently tape is down but definitely not out. Considered cumbersome and unwieldy by some, tape products such as cassette and VHS are still coveted by many. It’s physicality alone make it a viable alternate to virtual digital commodities.

Besides work recorded on tape, this exhibit also features artwork created with tape. Used tape products are inexpensive, accessible, and plentiful. As a medium for creating artwork magnetic analog tape can be repurposed in any number of creative ways.

A mixtape DJ session will provide the soundtrack to the opening event.
