BROWN GIRLS
Premiere Screening
Wed Feb 15th, 6-9pm
Chicago Art Department and Resident Artist Ciera McKissick are pleased to present a release party to celebrate the Chicago release of the highly anticipated Brown Girls, a new web-series written by Fatimah Asghar and directed by Samantha Bailey of You’re So Talented. ‘Brown Girls’ is an intimate story of the lives of two young women of color. Leila is a South Asian-American writer just now owning her queerness. Patricia is a sex-positive Black-American musician who is struggling to commit to anything: job, art and relationships. While the two women come from completely different backgrounds, their friendship is ultimately what they lean on to get through the messiness of their mid-twenties. A fantastic and melanated lineup for y’all. Jeez Loueez will host and introduce performances by:
Jamila Woods
Sonia Denis
Nabila Hossain
Swati Tiwari
Lisa Mishra Music
Po’Chop
Smooth sounds from Lisa Decibel will carry the night. Grab a tarot reading from Jasmine Alexandria Barber, pick up some fresh threads from Bronze Chicago, get some sparkle from Mashallah, and stay sweet with Sugar and Scrub, a Chicago-based, woman-run all homemade and natural gift box business. *This event has mature content, conversations about sex, and brief nudity. For questions about this event contact Ciera McKissick at amfmmag@gmail.com.
