MODERN ANXIETYFri April 11th, 6-10pm@CAD West
“Is anxiety an animal instinct, something we share with rats and lizards and amoebas? Is it a learned behavior, something acquirable through mechanical conditioning? Or is it, after all, a uniquely human experience, dependent on consciousness of, among other things, a sense of self and the idea of death?” Barbara J King
It can be said that at the root of all anxiety is the fear of loss. Loss of self, time, memory, human connection, and finally that of life can be driving factors of this contemporary dis-ease. Modern Anxiety is a one-night exhibition featuring video installation and film work by Chicago artists Lori Felker, Jesse McLean, Melissa Myser, Jess Myers, Lucas Shaffer and live audio performance by Ian Sutherland and Dan Velazquez inspired by this concept of modern dread. Modern Anxiety comes to Chicago Art Department Gallery West on April 11th, 2014 form 6-10pm at 1932 S Halsted St, Chicago IL.
