Nascent States
Mexican immigrant living in Chicago, Rodrigo Lara constructs memorials. The artist molds fragments of personal, social, and intercultural memories into physical form in much the same way our brains and history books might recall them: through the act of accumulation and elimination. He is best known for his life-sized sculptures and large-scale installations. In Nascent States, however, Rodrigo Lara shows the fragments of fragments–small-scale drawings and maquettes that inform his colossal memorials about immigration, religion, and memory. Organized in tandem with Laura-Caroline Johnson.
